In Tunisia, the Delegation of the European Union was established in 1979. The Head of Delegation holds the rank of ambassador and is accredited to the President of the Republic.

What we do

The EU Delegation carries out the usual functions of any embassy: maintaining ongoing dialogue with authorities, the business community, and civil society; representing the EU; reporting on the political, economic, and social situation of the country; and disseminating public information about the European Union through various means (website, social media, press releases, and briefings).

As in other parts of the world, the EU Delegation in Tunisia closely coordinates its activities with the embassies of EU Member States. Seventeen out of twenty-seven EU Member States have embassies in Tunisia. The Delegation also performs functions directly related to the competencies of the European Union, particularly the responsibility for monitoring trade and agricultural relations between the EU and Tunisia. Likewise, overseeing the implementation of the EU-Tunisia Association Agreement is a key part of its work.

The Delegation is also responsible for managing bilateral cooperation between the EU and Tunisia, in collaboration with the Ministry of Development and International Cooperation and other sectoral ministries. This cooperation includes technical assistance for privatization, support for rural development, education, and sustainable development.

Finally, the Delegation organizes cultural activities in Tunisia, notably the European Film Days, in cooperation with Member State embassies, and also funds initiatives benefiting the nonprofit sector.
